The Grammy Awards is set to look different in 2027 as it introduces five new award categories and important changes to its voting and eligibility rules.
The updates were announced by the Recording Academy ahead of the 69th Grammy Awards, scheduled for February 7, 2027. These changes are aimed at reflecting the growing diversity in global music.
New Grammy Categories Added
Five new categories have been introduced:
Best Asian Pop Music Performance – For outstanding Asian pop performances including K-pop, J-pop, and C-pop in Asian languages.
Best R&B Collaboration or Duo/Group Performance – For modern R&B collaborations by duos or groups.
Best Traditional Pop Vocal Performance – For classic-style pop vocal performances.
Best Traditional Folk Album – For traditional folk music recordings. The current folk category will now be renamed Best Contemporary Folk Album.
Best Latin Song – For songwriters of new Latin songs with at least 51% Spanish lyrics.
According to Grammy CEO Harvey Mason Jr., the updates reflect the fast growth and global nature of today’s music industry.
Voting and Eligibility Changes
Several rule changes have also been introduced:
Ballot Plus system introduced – Voting members can now choose to vote in up to 15 peer categories instead of the usual structure, depending on qualification.
Best New Artist rule updated – Artists can now be submitted up to four times instead of three.
Album eligibility adjusted – Albums now need 66% new recordings instead of 75% to qualify.
Digital-only releases included – Online-only releases can now compete in select categories like Best Album Notes and Best Historical Album.
More recognition for creators – Songwriters and composers on winning albums will now also receive Grammy statuettes or certificates, giving them equal recognition with producers and engineers.
These updates are expected to make the awards more inclusive and better aligned with modern music trends.

Yusuf Muftaudeen, also known as Aremo and popularly known for his blog “Gbedu360,” is a Nigerian blogger, online entrepreneur, and writer who is the head of many online firms and also a webmaster. He became successful after launching Gbedu360.com.ng in 2017.
Early Life & Education
Yusuf Muftaudeen was born in Lagos, Nigeria, on April 16th 1999, into a family of 9. His Mother lost 5 children and remain 4, He was the fourth born, and his younger brother’s name is Samsideen Yusuf grew up in Ijora Badia, Apapa, and had his first education at L.A School, Ajegunle Apapa In Lagos before he moved to Ikotun Egbe where he further more his education and started his music and blogging career.
Career
Aremo has always been a good internet user and loves to be a web designer, so he started working around the web. Later, he attended a six-month (6-month) training course on Web design in Ikotun.
